Last Friday night, I got to kick off the month of February with The Blog Bloc going to see STOMP, which is apart of the Sacramento Broadway Series at the Sacramento Community Theater. You guys – I WAS NOT READY for what an incredible show I was about to watch.
You walk in, and this is what you see on stage (minus by playbill of course hehe)! I was contemplating for a long time whether or not it was decoration, or if everything on the set was going to be used as part of their music making. SPOILER ALERT – they use it all!
You guys, think of the cups song plus hand clapping with your friends at recess, plus like every kid’s dream come true of wanting to touch and bang on everything. Like acapella, all the sounds build on each other and sounds amazing together – but this one is without using voices! You’ll be blown away by everything they use to make noises! From brooms to trash cans (ok…this one is kind of obvious haha), to grocery carts, intertubes, sticks, pipes, lighters and so much more.
On top of making some great music, it is so energetic and entertaining. This group of 8 is incredibly talented and freaking in-shape! They are moving and bouncing around the whole stage, all while having everything perfectly working in harmony to make some great beats and amazing music!
I’m not going to lie. At first, I was like – really, 1.5 hours of watching people making sounds with no words at all? It wasn’t something I had ever seen before so I wasn’t sure how that could make up 90 minutes of entertainment. But I was very pleasantly surprised.
On top of making music and dancing – the blocking and the way they use the stage is amazing btw – it is also funny and interactive! The comradery between the characters was hilarious! I also loved that they got the crowd involved. We were clapping and helping make music too!
All in all, it was super fun, and family-friendly! To be honest, some of the innuendos may be a little inappropriate, but they would go right over kids heads. It’s a great event that anyone and everyone would enjoy! Even my husband – who doesn’t typically like theater I think would highly enjoy this!
It is here through this Sunday, February 10th! You can get tickets here!
If you’re interested in seeing or learning more about Broadway Sacramento, you can check out their website here! They have a few more shows coming up this season including Cats & Aladdin! I have been going to these shows for years and thoroughly enjoy them! It is the traveling Broadway cast, so the talent is superb and they always put on a great show!
