As we begin a new year (and decade!) today, I wanted to take the time to think about my goals and plans for this next year. I know people have mixed feelings about New Year’s Resolutions – but I think it’s a good time to evaluate where and how you want to grow within the next year.
Last year I started a habit of making goals for each month, which I really liked as well. They focused around my overarching goals for 2019, but they were smaller and more attainable to achieve. For example…in 2019, we wanted to save to buy a house, but then in my monthly goals I laid out how much I wanted us to save or what I wanted our savings account to be at. Another example, in 2019 I wanted to focus on being healthier. My monthly goals then looked something like, working out at least 3x a week or meal prepping. I think that is the problem with some resolutions – they can be hard to measure, so by breaking it down into smaller, more attainable goals each month it can bring you more success in reaching those goals.
This year I plan to do the same thing. I already have my goal setting planner ready to go – which if you don’t have one, I LOVE them. It gives you spaces to write your goals, areas to track progress on them, etc. I highly recommend these. Great for tracking not only daily tasks and events but goals too!
So…without further adieu…my goals for 2020:
1. Buy a House! This is something Aaron and I have been working towards for awhile now. We have made sacrifices *cough – living with my parents – cough* and we are really buckling down on our budget. We are hoping to do this within the first few months of 2020 and it will be one heck of a way to start this decade!!
2. Time Management. This one is really important to me. Now that I’ve had my first year of blogging under my belt, I have realized how much time I really need to dedicate to my blog and social media. However, there were too many times I was trying to rush to post on Instagram or would wait, which would then cut into my night or time with Aaron. It would also leave me stressed when I realized I had nothing prepared for that day/week. My goal is to have at least one week of content ALWAYS prepared. Which means taking some time one day out of the week to prep and create blog posts, Instagram posts, captions, editing, etc. I am hoping this will help give me back time during the week.
3. Expand. This has a few different meanings. I want to expand my work and knowledge when it comes to my blog. I want to learn new things with WordPress, increase my monthly views, and I want to figure out Pinterest for my business. I also want to expand my network. I have met some great people through this platform this last year, but I want to reach out and connect and learn from more people.
4. Be Healthy. This fall I started to do a small group personal training and I’ve loved it. It’s 2 mornings a week and it has been a great workout. I want to add at least 1, ideally 2 more workouts into my week. I actually love working out once I get there – the hardest part is just getting my butt to the gym. I also want to focus more on good healthy meals that are easy for Aaron and I to make that we enjoy. I want to get back into meal prepping because I know I tend to eat much better when I know I already have something made. I also want to focus more on meal planning to be more strategic when we grocery shop and hopefully waste less food.
5. Keeping a Clean House. This one will probably be the most amazing if I can keep this up. I honestly wish I was completely neurotic about keeping a clean house like Monica Geller (where are my Friends fans at?) but it’s honestly the last thing I ever want to do. I am notorious for trying clothes on not wanting to wear that outfit throwing it on the floor and leaving it there. Aaron jokes and calls my clothing pile Mount Saint Helen lol. If I could eliminate that – wow…I would feel like a true adult. We also plan to buy a house early this year and I really want to focus on keeping that clean!
6. Get Outside More. We are fortunate to live in a place with pretty great weather. It doesn’t get that cold and so we have the opportunity to get outside a lot during the year. I want to start taking advantage of that. My hubby and I were both so active growing up and I want to get back to that place. Whether it be going to just take a walk, ride our bikes, kick a soccer ball around or play tennis – I want to get some physical exercise out in the fresh air.
7. Challenge my Mind. Not exactly sure how I am going to do this, but I spend too many nights after work on the couch in front of the TV. I want to refocus my time on doing other things. I used to play piano and would love to take that up again. Maybe it’s doing a puzzle, or maybe it’s taking more time to read. Whatever it might be, I want to step away from the TV to spend time in other areas.
I hope this has all inspired you to rethink New Years Resolutions and focus on goals that you can work on achieving this year! Soon I will share how I take these goals and make them into small goals for each month. Tell me what you’re hoping to achieve this year?
