You guys, I am so excited to start this series!! Everyone always needs some great basic pieces in their closet, am I right? I love basics because they are so versatile! You can build tons of different looks with a few items so it’s totally worth the money and a major bang for your buck! 😉
I went through my closet and picked out my favorite basic pieces that I get so much use out of and I am so excited to share them all!
First up – the flannel! I don’t know about you guys, but when the plaid flannel started to gain popularity a few years back (oh jeez…it’s already been like 7 or 8 years now that I think about it) I was hesitant to jump on the bandwagon. I had one, that was extremely oversized, that I wore with leggings when I didn’t feel like getting dressed for my college classes. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I really started to add a few more into my wardrobe and play around with different looks! I love them because they are so comfy and most definitely can be worn with leggings or jeans, they can be dressed up or down, plus they are also a great layering piece! Not only to wear on top of tees and tanks but to also pair underneath sweaters, moto jackets and more!
In addition to what I’ve shown, here are a few other ways I would wear it:
Dressing it up:
- Tucking your flannel into some dark, high waisted jeans and pair with some booties, while it’s still cold or heeled sandals in the Spring and Summer. Throw on a fun statement necklace on top and there you go!
- Tuck in and pair with a sequin or tulle skirt and heels.
- Leave the bottom half unbuttoned to tie it in the front. Pair with high waisted jeans or a denim skirt.
Keeping it cas’ (caj? – anyone else know how to write the abbreviation for casual? lol):
- During the colder months throw on a vest over it – puffer, fleece, sherpa – they all work!
- Layer nation – pair with a tank underneath, flannel over and leave open and a leather moto jacket on top. Great for colder mornings and warmer afternoons so you can shed those layers!
- Layering it over a graphic tee (I’m not one to just wear a graphic tee by itself, so I love working it into my wardrobe this way!)
- Anytime you can tie it around your waist is a win IMO
Scroll down to the bottom to see my rounded up of some amazing flannels at all price points, save and splurge options. TBH – I have not splurged on a Rails flannel yet, but I have only heard AMAZING things about them. I have included some below too (and there are even some that are on sale!).
How do you like to wear your flannels?
