It is so crazy to think, but Tuesday I hit my 3 months since I launched my blog! Time is seriously flying, but I am learning more and more each day and really developing my brand which is super exciting! ๐
So in the corporate world, after your first 90 days, you typically get reviewed to see how your performance was and if you would be a good fit for the company, so I decided to do my own 90-day review.
First things first, this is DEFINITELY a good fit! I have seriously enjoyed thinking of content and sharing with you all!
I have already had people reach out to tell me the they are enjoying what I am sharing, or have bought something I shared and that makes me SO incredibly happy! I really wanted to start this to not only share my own experiences, thoughts, likes, and dislikes to hopefully help someone else out, but to also be a resource and become that go-to person.
So, I also wanted to share a few things I have learned in the first 90 days:
- You will never be completely ready for something, so just go for it. I put off started my blog for a long time for countless reasons. One of the reasons was I felt like I didn’t know enough. I had done quite a bit of research, but let me tell you, you learn so much quicker when you dive in! I have already learned SO much in my first 3 months. There is so much I know now that I would have even had a clue how to find that information or where to start back in December.
- This industry is filled with extremely talented, smart, and supportive women. I am amazed at the connections I have already made and how willing everyone has been to offer advice, shoot pictures with me, or just connect. I love when women lift up and help other women, and let me tell you – the blogging community is filled with them!
- Some of your biggest fans & supporters will surprise you! There are people that I thought would care less about my blog, but they are always the ones who look at my stories on Instagram or tell me how much I love what I am sharing. Don’t ever write anyone off – because they could end up the most devoted follower, fan, or supporter.
- I love to shop, so now I feel like I have a bigger purpose when I am shopping. Not only am I looking for pieces that I will enjoy for my wardrobe, but also thinking about what I think others would enjoy seeing – and of course, always on the lookout for those sales!!
- Time management is key! I work full time and want to maintain my blog as well as I can (meaning regular blog posts and daily social posts), on top of having a social life and getting some time with my hubby. Sometimes it’s exhausting and I feel like I am going all day. Other days I am majorly multi-tasking. But I am finding out what works best and rolling with it! One thing that I have realized, posting 3 blogs a week is not only time consuming on my end, but you all also don’t have time time to go read it! I want everyone to be able to easily access my most recent post(s) and not feel rushed to read it before it gets lost with the other previous posts. So with that, I will be moving to 1 blog a week, 2 max!
- This is hard work! I know some people may not realize it, and other people might just think taking and posting pictures on Instagram is fun. Which don’t get me wrong, I grew up with a mom who was a photographer, so I love going out and shooting content and am always excited to share it with you all. However, it is much easier to shoot outside – so when it was getting dark super early and I work 9-5, it meant having to get enough content shot on the weekend so I would be ready to go for the week. Which also means a lot of preparation and planning and making sure what I am shooting is in-line with sales going on and what I want to share. I feel like I sound like I’m complaining, but I just want to peel back the curtain a little on what it really takes to maintain consistent content. And there are some people who are way better than me and have even more they are sharing – so MAJOR props to those girls! Maybe I’ll be there one day! ๐
- It takes a lot of self confidence and a go-getter attitude. You can not wait and sit around for something to happen. You need to go out and do it. Making the connections with other bloggers, learning how to be successful, working with brands. So much of it comes from the work you put in. This was a hard thing for me to digest, because I have always waited and let people come to me. That ain’t gonna happen in this world haha, so it’s really pushing me outside my comfort zone and helping me grow a lot.
So if you’re thinking about starting a blog – or something else – just do it! I think you’ll surprise yourself at how quickly you will learn about an industry or job you are passionate about. There will never be the “perfect time” so you will find a way to make it work! If you’re not, I hope this gave you a little more insight on what kind of work “influencers” and bloggers do to make this all a beneficial experience for you! ๐ But trust me, we wouldn’t do it if we didn’t absolutely love it!!!
Overall, I think these first few months have given me so much to build off of and learn from. I am so excited about what is to come in the next few months in beyond. I hope you all continue on the journey with me!
